The Illinois House and Senate convene from May 5-8.
The deadline to move House bills out of Senate committees and Senate bills out of House committees is May 8.
The Third Reading deadline for moving House bills out of the Senate and Senate bills out of the House is May 22.
The General Assembly is scheduled to adjourn on May 31.

Employment Rates for March
The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) announced that the unemployment rate was 5.1 percent in March, up +0.1 percentage point from February, and up +0.5 percentage point from the same month, one year ago, based on data provided by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The revised February unemployment rate was 5.0 percent.

ICC Request for Community Input on Potential Nuclear Facility Siting
On April 23, the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) approved a Notice of Inquiry (NOI) (available via this link) pursuant to Governor Pritzker’s Executive Order 2026-01, to gather input from communities that may be interested in hosting a new nuclear power generation facility in Illinois. The purpose of the NOI is to collect information regarding potential community interest, site characteristics and other considerations that may inform the assessment of potential locations that could support such a facility. The NOI also includes questions directed to utilities related to transmission infrastructure, system capabilities and potential constraints, and to other stakeholders to provide any additional information relevant to identifying communities that may be suitable for hosting new nuclear generation facilities. The deadline to submit responses is Monday, May 25, 2026. The responses are requested to be sent via email to the NOI Manager, Gulzar Ahmed, at gulzar.ahmed@illinois.gov.
IDNR Awards 108 Biodiversity Field Trip Grants
Nearly 7,000 students will visit Illinois state parks, natural areas, museums and other natural resources sites thanks to grants from the Illinois Biodiversity Field Trip Grant program administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) and the Illinois Conservation Foundation (ICF).
This competitive grant program allows Illinois teachers to apply for funds to take students on a field trip to study Illinois’ natural resources. Learning activities must directly relate to the school’s curriculum, and funding covers such expenses as transportation and substitute teachers.

2026 IDOR Local Government Workshop
The Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) Local Tax Allocation Division (LTAD) will hold its annual Local Government Workshop virtually on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon. The workshop will focus on LTAD’s basic functions and the requirements for local government officials, as well as any legislative changes that will impact local governments and the resources available to local government officials. To register, interested individuals should email REV.LocalTax@illinois.gov with their name, title, email address, and phone number.
