Supreme Court Ruling (July 18, 2023)

James R. Rowe, Kankakee County State's Attorney, et al., Appellees, v. Kwame Raoul, Attorney General of Illinois, et al, Appellants

The Illinois Supreme Court issued a 5-2 ruling that upholds the provisions within the Safety, Accountability, Fairness and Equity – Today (SAFE-T) Act that eliminate cash bail. The Court is providing trial courts 60 days to prepare for the new rules. Cash bail will be eliminated on September 18, 2023.
